The word in cyberspace is that Halle Berry is the Gen X girl's pinup and Halle Berry does great casual. This is not the casual for Friday in the office, this casual is for the weekend, the school or errand running. So take a few lessons from the Halle Berry stylebook and create your own Gen X casual look.

Take care of your hair. Get a great cut that you can style yourself. Maintain your colour. Repeat after me grey roots are never a good look. If you've got a bit of length, then a sleek ponytail can be your best friend, especially when you're in a hurry.
Do jeans and floaty tops. A bit of cleavage is OK, just don't put it all on display. Fitted (not tight) tops will also do the trick. A bit of animal print or sparkle (not together) looks great. Jeans need to be flattering and comfortable, not skin tight. Mix it up with a great pair of bootleg style stretchy black trousers.
Find colours that flatter you and do them to death. Take note of compliments. If someone says you look great in a colour, take that as a tip to invest heavily.
Be wise--accessorise. A great handbag is a must--make it your statement piece. Use belts and bold necklaces. Cool shades complete the look. They can also double as a headband when indoors. Halle has the wears the ultimate in earrings--a classy pair of diamond studs. If you can't make it, fake it--no one will know
Makeup is necessary, but shouldn't be overdone. You're doing casual so make it simple with a tinted sunblock base, lipgloss and lashings of black mascara a la Ms Berry.
Flat sandals, boots, sneakers and ballet flats are a casual girl's best friend. They're comfortable and don't make it look as though you're trying too hard.
